Dr. Scharer is a physician board-certified in family medicine. Born and raised near Adrian, MI, Dr. Scharer attended medical school in Fort Lauderdale at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. After spending four years in Florida, Dr. Scharer moved back to Michigan in 2005. He spent time practicing in Mount Clemens for three years before deciding to establish his permanent practice in South Lyon in 2008.
Dr. Scharer enjoys all aspects of primary care, from pediatrics to geriatrics, office procedures to chronic conditions. He also enjoys sports medicine, women’s health, and preventative medicine. He was drawn to practice in South Lyon for many of the same reasons he was drawn to Family Practice in general. The ability to have a personal relationship with his patients as well as the chance to have an impact on the overall health and welfare of his community.
In his free time, Dr. Scharer is an avid sports fan. That certainly contributes to his keen interest in athletes and conversely, Sports Medicine. When not seeing patients, you can often find him at Comerica Park, Michigan Stadium, Crisler Arena, or The Palace (He would never admit to being seen at Ford Field in such a public forum). Aside from watching sports, he likes to enjoy quiet time at home with family and friends, either reading, cooking, or just plain relaxing.

Morgan Covington is a board certified Physician Assistant. Born and raised in Lansing, Morgan graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience prior to pursuing her career as a physician assistant. After graduating with a Masters of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Arcadia University, Morgan moved to the Washington, DC region with her husband and began her professional career. After several years in practice, Morgan and her growing family followed their desire to return to Michigan and are happy to once again call themselves Michiganders.
Morgan joins South Lyon Family Docs with a background in women’s health and a dedication to preventative medicine and patient-centered care. Morgan believes the key to exceptional care lies in the development of a trusting patient-provider relationship. She promises to carefully listen to each of her patient’s concerns, provide thorough education, and work collaboratively to determine the most effective treatment plan. She is excited to establish roots as a medical provider in southeast Michigan and looks forward to becoming part of this growing community.
Outside of the office, Morgan loves spending time with her husband and son as well their large families, especially when that time is spent lakeside in northern Michigan. She is a born and bred Spartan (although her alma mater suggests otherwise) and enjoys sports, cross stitch, competitive board games, and campfires.
